Nebraska residents who enter into plea agreements after being arrested do not always know the final outcome of their cases at that time. In some instances, there may be lab tests or other evidence that defense or prosecution teams are waiting on before finalizing a particular case. This is what is happening to a man and a woman in Nebraska after their recent arrests and stints in jail.
After allegedly driving the wrong way on a surface street, officers began pursuing a couple and eventually followed them onto Interstate 80 near North Platte. The pair reportedly left their vehicle at a highway rest stop and both were arrested separately. The driver was found in some woods nearby the rest stop while the passenger was located a few miles away. Both people pleaded no contest to fleeing and avoiding arrest and the driver also entered a plea of no contest to driving while under the influence. For both, original charges of distribution of methamphetamine were dropped for now.
The substance believed to be the drug that was taken from their vehicle has been sent to a lab. If results conclude that it is actually meth, the pair could face new drug-related charges. It is expected that it could take several months before this happens.
